What is Skal?
Skal Biocontrole is the independent body that inspects and certifies organic production in the Netherlands, under EU organic rules. Our Rotterdam warehouse is Skal certified to store and handle organic products.
Why does my warehouse need to be certified?
Organic status has to be protected at every step of the supply chain. A certified warehouse keeps organic products separate, traceable and properly documented, so they can still be sold as organic.
Do I need my own organic certification?
Usually, yes. The business selling organic products normally needs its own certification. Our certificate covers storage and handling at our Rotterdam warehouse. Check with your own certification body.
I import organic products from outside the EU. What do I need?
Organic imports into the EU need an electronic certificate of inspection (COI) in the EU’s TRACES system before they can be released as organic. We check your paperwork before we book the delivery in.
Can you store organic food in the UK too?
Our organic certification applies to our Rotterdam warehouse. Talk to us about the best setup if you sell organic products in both the UK and EU.
Do you offer chilled or frozen storage?
No. We offer ambient storage only, which suits shelf-stable organic food, drinks and supplements.
