What it is

A trusted trader in the eyes of customs

AEO status is only granted after customs has assessed how a business works. It’s reviewed, and has to be kept up.

Compliance record

A clean history with customs and tax rules, with no serious breaches.

Records and controls

Accurate stock and customs records, with every movement accounted for.

Security and reliability

Sound finances, and safe, secure handling of goods across the supply chain.

What it means for you

Why AEO matters to your brand

When your stock crosses a border, who handles it matters. AEO status means customs already trusts the warehouse your goods arrive at.

Fewer checks

Customs carries out fewer physical and document checks on trusted operators.

Priority treatment

If goods are selected for inspection, AEOs are dealt with first.

Faster clearance

Smoother, more predictable imports, so stock reaches the shelf and goes on sale sooner.

A secure supply chain

Your goods are handled to standards customs has audited, from the port to the despatch desk.

Recognised beyond the EU

AEO is an international standard, built on the World Customs Organization framework.

Customs expertise in-house

The same team that handles your fulfilment knows EU customs inside out.

Good to know: AEO status is held by our Rotterdam warehouse. You still need your own EU EORI number and Dutch VAT number to import and sell from the EU, and we can help you get set up.

Questions

Good to know

What is AEO?

AEO stands for Authorised Economic Operator. It is an internationally recognised status, granted by customs, for businesses that have shown they are reliable, compliant and secure in how they handle goods moving across borders.

What does AEO mean for my goods?

Customs treats an AEO as a trusted operator. That usually means fewer physical and document checks, priority treatment if goods are selected for a check, and smoother, more predictable clearance.

Does AEO mean my goods will never be checked?

No. Customs can still check any shipment. AEO status reduces the likelihood of checks and gives priority when they happen.

Do I need to be AEO certified myself?

No. You benefit from working with a certified warehouse. Your own registrations, such as an EU EORI number and a Dutch VAT number, are still needed.

Is AEO the same as a bonded warehouse?

No, they are different. A bonded warehouse lets goods be stored with duty suspended. AEO is a trusted trader status. Our Rotterdam warehouse is both.

Which of your warehouses is AEO certified?

Our Rotterdam warehouse at the Port of Rotterdam holds AEO status. Our UK warehouse in Thame does not.
