DPD Road LEVY CHANGE

Dear Customer,

Please carefully read the mail below in case you haven't received it.

New road charging levy as of 1 July 2026

As previously announced, the Dutch government will introduce the road charging levy as of 1 July 2026. From that date, owners of trucks over 3,500 kg will pay an amount per kilometre driven on almost all motorways and part of the provincial road network. The levy applies to both Dutch and foreign vehicles.

This government levy will result in additional costs for parcel transport. For DPD Netherlands, this applies to domestic shipments and to international shipments where the first part of the transport takes place in the Netherlands.

For example, when parcels are collected from customers and transported to our hubs, depots or the border.

Although existing charges such as the Eurovignette will disappear and motor vehicle tax for heavy vehicles will be reduced or abolished, this only partially compensates for the additional costs. That is why we will introduce a road charging levy surcharge as of 1 July 2026.

What does this mean for you?

As of 1 July 2026, the following changes will apply:

  • For domestic shipments, a new road charging levy surcharge of 1.3% of the parcel price will apply.

  • For international shipments, the existing toll surcharge per destination country will increase by 0.8%. This increase applies to the Dutch part of the transport: the first mile.

The current surcharges will be included on the rates page on our website. This way, you can always consult the most up-to-date overview.

The surcharge applies to, among others, DPD Home, DPD Business, Parcelletter, DPD Shop, Collection Request, MPS, DPD Shop Return and DPD Tyre. DPD International Express is not subject to this surcharge.

Possible reduction by the government

At the moment, there are political discussions about a possible temporary reduction of the kilometre rate. The introduction of the road charging levy itself is scheduled for 1 July 2026.

If the government adjusts the rates at a later stage, we will of course review what this means for our surcharge. If there is reason to do so, we will inform you accordingly.
